DEBT LIMIT
@ As the debate on raising the national debt ceiling shift to the U.S. Senate Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Carl Levin urged passage while calling the compromise passed Monday night by the U.S. House less than ideal.
"Despite its many flaws, this legislation must pass," Levin said in his floor statement to the Senate Tuesday.
"While there will be a number of negative consequences as a result of this bill’s passage, there will be more dire consequences if it fails to pass," Levin said. "The choice here is between a faulty piece of legislation, on the one hand, and severe damage to our economy and even greater joblessness on the other."

CAN CRANBROOK PROGRAM HELP PONTIAC?
@ BLOOMFIELD TWP. — A group of teens have decided to tackle the problems of Oakland County’s seat, hoping to help put the city back to where it was.
The youths are students enrolled in the Horizons Upward Bound program at Cranbrook schools have decided to make helping Pontiac their school project.

WOLVERINE LAKE GIRL WINS “GOT MILK” CAMPAIGN
@ Wolverine Lake resident Alyssa Collopy, 13, is featured in magazines nationwide donning the famous milk mustache synonymous with “Got Milk” ads.
Judges selected 27 finalists out of thousands of contestants nationwide between the ages of 13 and 18 to be in a “Got Milk” ad. Then voters selected Collopy to be one of the nine girls featured in the advertisement, representing the nine essential nutrients in milk.

@ A meeting with Michigan Department of Treasury officials has Pontiac elected leaders hoping for some kind of intervention with the city's emergency manager.
“The way he sat there and listened to the people and responded back, it seemed genuine,” Pontiac City Council President Lee Jones said.

JALEN ROSE STARTS JAIL SENTENCE - shipped at 1:05 p.m.
@ PONTIAC — Former basketball star Jalen Rose managed to avoid the media on his way to the Oakland County Jail, reporting early Tuesday to start his 20-day sentence for drunken driving.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Capt. Barry Zeeman informed the media standing outside the jail that Rose had arrived before 8 a.m.
“He complied with the order,” Zeeman said.
