DEBT LIMIT: HOW LOCALS VOTED
@ U.S. Rep. Gary Peters voted against the deal to raise the nation's debt ceiling, saying it didn't go far enough deficit spending.
But most of Michigan's Republicans voted for it.
The Bloomfield Township Democrat said the legislation would make deep cuts to programs affecting middle class families without making the fundamental budget reforms needed to reduce the national debt.

@ With Chrysler leading the way, Detroit carmakers posted strong sales gains during July.
Chrysler sales increased 20 percent to the best July showing in five years, General Motors Co. reported an 8-percent gain in sales for July compared to sales in the same month in 2010 and Ford said its sales increased 9 percent.
“Despite all of the negative news headlines, auto sales have increased during July, which is a good sign for all of us,” said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service.

Judges selected 27 finalists out of thousands of contestants nationwide between the ages of 13 and 18 to be in a “Got Milk” ad. Then voters selected Collopy to be one of the nine girls featured in the advertisement, representing the nine essential nutrients in milk.

@ PONTIAC — Former basketball star Jalen Rose managed to avoid the media on his way to the Oakland County Jail, reporting early Tuesday to start his 20-day sentence for drunken driving.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Capt. Barry Zeeman informed the media standing outside the jail that Rose had arrived before 8 a.m.
“He complied with the order,” Zeeman said.

@ Accused of kicking in the door of her ex-husband’s Independence Township residence while armed with a baseball bat, a 41-year-old West Bloomfield Township woman was arrested late Monday.
Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were called to the home in the 6100 block of Cheshire Park Drive around 11:43 p.m. Monday after the victim complained that his ex-wife was ringing his doorbell and attempting to enter his home.
